House in Little Washington

HOUSE IN LITTLE WASHINGTON
LITTLE WASHINGTON, VIRGINIA

This project was designed as a new farmhouse for a couple and their three daughters in the town of Little Washington, Virginia. The site looks out over the rolling hills east of the Blue Ridge, and is in the midst of an overlook of an old apple orchard. The design consisted of a new barn and horse paddocks.

Olshaker

OLSHAKER RESIDENCE
ARLINGTON, VA

The house is a threshold to the landscape. A ceremonial way connects the street and suburban fabric to the bucolic site to the north, all seen in the context of the city as viewed in the distance. The volumes of the house step up from the east reflecting the natural topography. The house is conceived as a porch bounded on two sides by more enclosed volumes.

SIMON
LAKE GUNTERSVILLE, AL

Located in a development along Lake Guntersville in northern Alabama this project is the retirement home for a couple who will be returning to their southern roots. The house is conceived of an assembly of elemental pieces that acts as a threshold connecting the suburban street side of the property to a gently sloping lawn to the lake. A single double height living area is seen as a large porch overlooking the water. A separate pavilion built of ground-face concrete block and cypress siding houses the guest rooms on the lower floor and the master suite above.
